Our History
We go to great lengths to ensure the purest water. In fact, our filtration system is 400 million years old.
At the heart of every bottle of Highland Spring is a story that dates back 400 million years. This is when the ancient red sandstone and basalt layers of the Ochil Hills were formed – the same hills that today are the home of Highland Spring and account for its unique, natural taste. Every drop of rain that falls on our protected hillside makes a 15-year journey though the landscape, trickling slowly down through the heather and deep into the rock bed on its way to the source of Highland Spring.
Long before we started bottling from the spring here in Blackford, our village was renowned for the quality of its water. In fact, King James IV of Scotland issued a Royal Charter in 1503 sanctioning Blackford Beer as his Coronation Ale. This fine brew used the water of the Ochil Hills and established the area as a leading source of pure, unspoilt natural water.
We started bottling in 1979 and, by supplying spring water just as nature intended, we’ve grown to be the UK’s leading brand of bottled water. As we move towards the future, we are working hard to ensure that our catchment area stays 100% organic by keeping it free from pesticides and other pollutants.
